"...soon after we left Grandpa's for Oklahoma to homestead 160 acres of land.  I remember it so distinctly, our preparations that we made for this trip, as none of us had been out in such a thing as a covered wagon before.  I remember how the hoops were made and the curtains draped over it, for the covered wagon.  We took our chickens.  We took our cows -- two -- I would say everything that belonged to us to old Oklahoma which had been open several years before.  We stopped on our way to Oklahoma..."
